Certified CACM (Pyramid Peak Properties) Community Managers of some Homeowner Associations in Kirkwood
Bryce Wehan is Pyramid Peak Property’s senior oversight manager of Real Estate Sales, Vacation Rental Management and HOA Management. Raised at Kirkwood, Bryce was a ski-team competitor and is now a ski coach off and on. He and his wife, Mei, and son, Eizen, live in nearby South Lake Tahoe, across the street from his mother and Pyramid Peak founder Joan Pilar. Bryce is a graduate of University of Nevada, Reno.
In 1995, when he was 7 years old, Bryce and his family moved from the California coast to Kirkwood, where his folks served as proprietors of the General Store, which was located on the first floor of Sun Meadows One. Kirkwood is his home at heart and wants the community to thrive. While attending school in Kirkwood, he helped at the General Store in his youth. Later, his mother, Joan, branched away from the general store and became the summer programs manager, a crowning achievement being the creation of a renowned disc golf course and mountain bike park. She became the Broker for Kirkwood Real Estate and then stepped into a new career again by starting up her own brokerage firm, Pyramid Peak Properties. While growing up in Kirkwood, Bryce and his brother, Cory, had the opportunity to experience communion with nature. Daily rounds hiking the disc golf course, bike rides through trails and meadows were among his favorites.
Kirkwood is one of those places, rare to have such access to a piece of nature and he appreciates the opportunity this environment provides.
The chance to travel was a true blessing for the young ski racer. His experiences at mountain areas of California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Alaska, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and Canada were a treasure. He spent summers in New Zealand and Chile as well as a memorable camp in Austria. These were life experiences of a life he savors. At the height of his career, Bryce ranked 37th in the United States for Downhill and 361stworldwide. This was particularly memorable since it was obtained by placing 31stat a continental level event in Lake Louise where some World Cup racers had attended. Another great experience was placing first in the Jackson Hole Town Downhill and participating in the Canadian Nationals prior to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
Once in college, he spent time with the ski team at the University of Nevada, Reno, a school sponsored by the NCAA transitioning to the U.S. Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA). It was a fulfilling experience to help run a club as a contributor with the many enthusiastic collegiate colleagues.
After time in college having gone from 250 skiing days a year to <10, he reset his perspective of skiing. Having become too competition focused, Bryce was able to start fresh and enjoy skiing as a layman. His skill and gained confidence allowed him to re-enter the ski racing world as a coach. This was an outlet to recharge the soul without having to be attached to competition.
Bryce’s educational background stems from a BS in Biology, early volunteering and work in university labs, and subsequent years in research of landscape plant ecology. This education was applied to five years with the United States Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Research (USDA-ARS) unit in Reno. During these years, he spent much of the time in the high elevation mountain meadows of central Nevada.
His Primary Investigator (PI) focused on ecohydrology, using isotopes to determine sources of water, soil moisture probes, sap flow sensors, water stress data, gas exchanges in plant leaves and how that scaled to communities of the Great Basin. Branching out their infrastructure, Bryce focused much of his time on the plant data that can be gathered from land-based repeat digital photography.
This is a developing science where the goal is to identify plants on the landscape, at the leaf-pixel level, and map their annual phenology to various functions. Where these functions then become the predicting models for growth thresholds of those cycles. Thresholds such as when a plant begins to green up, mature, senesce, and go dormant. This, among other things, allows us to help connect satellite data to ground level field measurements and make finer management decisions on landscape usage. Another example is the optimization of fertilizer and water usage on a given agricultural field.
Fast Forward to being a Realtor® and Community Property Manager. How did he get from there to here?
Short answer: His heart was not fitting in with the life he was building.
Long Answer: Research was a bit lonely, and it took an exceptionally long time to know that he had achieved something, if at all. The realization of another path to fill his soul with the right energy was needed. One that was more connected to family, his skiing skills, his desire to live in Tahoe, the desire to help others.
He moved back to South Lake Tahoe in 2018, marrying his love, Mei and soon came Eizen, their son. Working many days in Kirkwood his initial focus was on maintenance and property management. This opened his perspective on several types of construction, maintenance and the requirements of the environment we live in. Bryce obtained his real estate sales agent and Realtor® license and plans to earn a broker’s license.
Utilizing his knowledge of Kirkwood and experience of its high elevation environment to guide the community is his specialty. This is the nature of being a trusted local real estate agent and why the importance. His goal is to help find the right fit and to guide you effectively in your real estate needs.
